Beautifully smooth, fruity and tasty, this 2 up Shiraz from my favourite wine region, Australia’s McLaren Vale is now one of my stock wines after trying a coupe of bottles from Majestic Wine.
From first taste it is lovely and it just gets better as you make your way through the bottle. I chose it initially because of the look of the bottle, the fact it was on offer and because it was from McLaren Vale. If you try one new bottle of wine this week, make it the 2up.
“Origin: The vineyard of Kangarilla Road offers 30 acres of mature vines, contributing rich fruit characters so typical of McLaren Vale. Sourcing grapes from three regions this wine is then matured in French and American oak for 12 months. Taste: A vibrant Shiraz with rich blackberry fruit and hints of plum, dark cherry and spice. The long lingering finish reflects dark berry fruits and fine tannins. Enjoy: Enjoy this full, fruity style now as an accompaniment to spare ribs slathered in barbecue sauce.” (Majestic.co.uk)
Here is what Kangarilla say about it:
2012 Kangarilla Road 2Up Shiraz
The 2012 vintage was one of the most condensed seen in McLaren Vale with crushing completed by the end of March compared with the middle of April in 2011. The McLaren Vale vintage was light in crop, but of excellent quality, one of the best. Harvest weather conditions during February and March saw cool nights but warm days ideal for ripening. The wine is from grapes sourced from several vineyards throughout the McLaren Vale region and was fermented in traditional static open fermenters using gentle cap management techniques. The pressed wine was aged in French and American oak.
Bouquet: Bright red and dark fruit on the nose with black currants, strawberry and plum.
Palate: The palate has trade mark McLaren Vale savoury black fruits and plum together with firm fruit and oak tannins resulting in a dry finish.
