A lovely ‘celebration’ ale from Adnams which tastes half way between a wheat beer and an American pale ale and is all the better for it. It has already won a Gold medal at the 2008 BBI (British Bottlers Institute) awards and came first in its class at the 2008 World beer awards so its quality and pedigree (Adnams is currently Brewery Of The Year 2011 according to The Good Pub Guide) is unquestionable. Well worth searching out and trying.
Innovation was originally brewed as a one off to celebrate the opening of Adnams‘ new brewhouse and distribution centre and having tasted it it is clear that demand was overwhelming and so this fine beer has been brewed every year since. Innovation was born after Adnams Chairman, Jonathan Adnams, instructed his team to ‘Brew something to wow me’. And succeed they have.
“The beer our version of an American IPA and is brewed with a blend of Wheat and Pale ale malts to give a spicy, biscuity undertone to the beer, but it is in the hops where the beer really shines. A blend of hops from England, Slovenia and America (namely Boadicea, Columbus and Stryian Goldings) combine to give a wonderful grapefruit and tropical fruit aroma and bitterness that is balanced by the sweetness of the barley.” (Adnams.co.uk)
