Right in the heart of Clapham Old Town, just off Clapham Common, near the cinema on Venn Street sits the appropriately named Venn St. Records bar. First off, it looks stunning. The exposed brickwork with tea light candles in the missing brick cavities makes for a cool, yet inviting space. The rows of old, classic vinyls on the wall, old music publications printed onto some of the walls like wallpaper complement the stage for live music and complete the cool look. The chairs are soft and comfortable and makes for a relaxing place to be. Homely but with a touch of live gig about it.
Second, their cocktails are great and the beer menu has one or two very strong choices on it including Goose Island IPA, but realistically their main focus is on epic cocktails. The staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful and even offered my wife (who was 7 months pregnant) a free virgin cocktail as “pregnant people drink free at Venn Street Records” apparently. Even if this was a one off, it was a lovely, endearing touch that definitely helped create a lovely warm up to an evening.
I haven’t stayed there into the evening yet, but their music roster and music playlists are strong and I’m sure that you could easily spend hours in there. I look forward to doing so!
“Venn St. Records is a small, neighbourhood bar tucked away from the busy Clapham High Street specialising in great drinks and Live Music. We offer great service with a relaxed vibe, plenty of offers and no pretentious bullshittery. Check out our listings for all the gig info here or alternatively have a chinwag with a member of staff. They’re all very nice. If you’d like to make a reservation then please complete the online reservations form here. Lastly, if you’ve never been and want to get a feel for the place then please feel free to take our glorious panoramic tour. It really is the shit.” (Venn St. Records)
